What is Regenerative Biotherapeutics?
Regenerative Medicine seeks to promote the body’s own healing process. It is used to treat joint pain and injury. New healing replaces connective tissue that has been damaged by age, disease, or trauma – vs. the current clinical strategy that focuses primarily on treating only the symptoms. Most commonly, musculoskeletal conditions such as arthritis, tendon or ligament strains and injuries, and muscle injury are successfully treated with regenerative biotherapeutics. It is also widely used for cosmetic purposes.
Process
To create platelet-rich plasma, your clinician will take a blood sample from your arm the same day of your treatment. The blood is then spun under a “double-spin” in a centrifuge that separates out the components of the blood from the platelets and naturally concentrates them within the plasma. This is the PRP Solution.
The PRP solution is then injected into the target area.
Target area can include any joint, facial, scalp, or open wound area. Most commonly treated area include injured knee or a shoulder tendon. In some cases, the clinician may use ultrasound to guide the injection.
Regenerative Biotherapeutics
rebuilds damaged tissue, PRP injections also reduce inflammation and pain, and stimulate joint lubrication.
treats osteoarthritis pain and stiffness by modulating the joint environment and reducing inflammation.
accelerates healing after jaw or dental surgeries, or for wound healing.
corrects male and female pattern baldness, preventing hair loss and promoting new hair growth.
used as an anti-aging treatment to improve overall skin texture, decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and eyes, and plumps hollowing areas such as tear trough grooves, cheeks, and temples. PRP can also help smooth both acne and surgical scars.
platelet-rich plasma
The strategy is to increase the concentration of specific bioproteins or hormones, called growth factors, within a targeted area to accelerate the healing process. Evidence-based Studies show that the increased concentration of growth factors in the platelet-rich plasma work to stimulate and accelerate the healing process, shortening healing time of injuries, decreasing pain and encouraging joint stability.
What to Expect After
There is minimal downtime after your injection!
If you have a tendon, ligament, or muscle treated with PRP, you may feel sore for 7 to 10 days after your procedure. For the following six weeks, your body continues to heal itself.
All patients are recommended a complete rest on the day of their procedure. Then, limited use of the treated area is advised for the next two days to allow the joint to absorb the platelets properly.
Avoid applying ice or heat at the site for three days after your injection. Do not apply lotions, oils, or makeup to the injection site for six hours. Avoid strenuous activities and exercise for three days after. Do not smoke or consume alcohol for at least three days post-procedure.
The PRP solution is then injected into the target area.
Target area can include any joint, facial, scalp, or open wound area. Most commonly treated area include injured knee or a shoulder tendon. In some cases, the clinician may use ultrasound to guide the injection.
